During the recent convocation ceremony at OCCC, gratitude took center stage, as several of the college’s employees – all of them dedicated, hard-working leaders – walked away with special awards meant to commemorate their outstanding performance.

The Robert P. Todd Leadership Award was granted to Jake Nelson, who has become well-known for his strong leadership skills through his work as both an English professor and chair of English in the Division of Arts, English and Humanities.

The Elven Gray Award was given to Jeremy Fineman, who has regularly displayed a friendly demeanor, a positive attitude and a strong dedication to OCCC while serving as an art professor and chair of the visual arts department.

The Chris Shelley Memorial Award went to Christopher Snoddy, who demonstrates his dedication to students every day through his role as associate vice president for student affairs. Over the years, Snoddy has consistently showcased his care for students and staff alike while striving to inspire others through leading by example.

The Ray McCullar Award was granted to Kamille Soutee, an accounting professor who constantly seeks out innovative methods to not only improve the classes she teaches for her students but also inspire others to learn, adapt and respond to change in a positive way.

The Employee of the Year awards went to three staff members: Crystal Mohamed, director of the TRIO grant programs; Katie Chestnut, technology lending specialist; and Melissa Leon Guerrero, a professor of business. These staff members were recognized for their exceptional work ethic and commitment to OCCC.

The convocation ceremony served as an opportunity for OCCC faculty and staff to pause from their daily responsibilities and celebrate one another’s accomplishments—a reflection of one of the college’s core values: gratitude.
