Library Hosts Peeps Diorama Contest, Names Winners in Multiple Categories

Cindy Hernandez, a sociology major at OCCC, took home the Most Iconic award for this depiction of “Peepbusters,” inspired by the blockbuster movie “Ghostbusters.”

OCCC’s Keith Leftwich Memorial Library recently hosted a unique contest that invited both students and staff members to create dioramas – or three-dimensional models – using Peeps marshmallow chicks to depict everything from book characters to movie scenes.

The contest allowed participants to compete in four broad categories: students, faculty, special and “Peeple’s Choice.” In a campus-wide email, the library announced the following as winners of the competition.

In the student category, awards were given to the first-place, second-place and third-place winners.

First place went to “Lord of the Peeps: Return of the Peep” by Alaina Kemp.
Second place went to “Willy Wonka and the Peep Factory” by William Logeman.
Third place went to “O-peep-enheimer” by Lilly Scholer.

Alaina Kemp, a psychology major at OCCC, took top honors in the student category, winning first place for her depiction of “The Lord of the Peeps,” based on the epic fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings.” (Peyton Seybolt)

William Logeman, a digital cinema production major at OCCC, won second place in the student category for this recreation of the iconic movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” (Peyton Seybolt)

Lilly Scholer, a political science and pre-law major at OCCC, won third place in the student category for her creation of “O-peep-enheimer,” based on the award-winning movie “Oppenheimer.” (Peyton Seybolt)

In the faculty category, the winner was “Assistant to the Regional Peep” by the OCCC Bookstore Peeps, with honorable mentions given to “Moby Peep” by Professor of Geography Julie Rice-Rollins and “Dysfunctional Peeps” by the OCCC Culture and Leadership Book Club.

The special awards category featured four subcategories: Spookiest, Most Iconic, Best Integration of Media and Most Precise:

The Spookiest award went to “Hail Peepmon” by Evander Crowdis.
The Most Iconic award went to “Peepbusters” by Cindy Hernandez.
The Best Integration of Media award went to “Peep Wars: A New Hope” by Joseph Fontanilla.
The Most Precise award went to “Peep Games” by Yulim Sin.

Finally, the “Peeple’s Choice” award went to “Game of Peep Thrones: Tyrian’s Trial” by Jack Dodson.

Every special award winner received a $25 gift card, and all of the winners received a 3D-printed Peeps figurine.
